Philadelphia Editorial Photographer

Whenever you turn the pages of a magazine, alongside of the text you see photographs that help bring the story to life. This type of imagery, placed on the page to enhance the text, is called editorial photography.

Editorial photography is important because the photographs that run in a publication help the readers better visualize the story. Therefore they bring a high value to the article. By helping the reader visualize the story, editorial photography becomes a critical part of every magazine’s branding. Great photographs lead to a great readership.

Are you a magazine editor looking to hire a portrait photographer for your commercial or editorial photography shoot? If so, let’s have a conversation and see how best we can collaborate on your upcoming photography project together.

Portrait Photography in Philadelphia

I’ve been working as a portrait photographer in Philadelphia for over 15 years. My subjects have included everyone from blue-collar workers to bank executives, from movie stars to Presidents, from mothers and fathers to children, and everyone in between.

Depending on the requirements of the photoshoot, the portrait photographer will work closely with the art director, stylist, and makeup artist to create powerful imagery that will bring a story to life.

From my experience, the planning behind a commercial photography shoot is the first step to a beautifully executed image. I work closely with the photography editor to understand what I need to do and the exact print requirements, from the photoshoot concept to the ultimate size the image will run when printed.

Unique and inventive photography will keep your readers captivated. They will be coming back every month to see newly published photographs. Hiring the perfect magazine photographer to capture your images is hard. It requires hiring a trustworthy and proven photographer who will always deliver based on your photography brief.

Whether you need a portrait of a chef in a restaurant, a CEO in a law firm, a DJ at a radio station, or a celebrity, you want a photographer who has the skills to build a rapport quickly with the subject or subjects so that a trust is created between them. This is vital as it helps to assure that the photographs will be genuine and of the finest quality.

In order to create the best editorial and commercial photography in Philadelphia, I spend a lot of time prepping for each photoshoot. After understanding your photography brief, I may even spend time scouting the location to understand the lighting in the shoot location. I often take environmental portraits with natural light, strobe lighting, or a mix of both.

It’s important you understand the style of the photographer before hiring because this will affect the outcome. I tend to work mostly with available light. I prefer shooting early mornings or late evening to get the best sunlight from the golden hours.

Photography Retouching

Once we’ve finished our photo shoot, I will download all of the original files. Also, I will make two backup copies of all the photographs in case of an emergency. The next step of my post-production workflow is to go through and name the files. After that, I make my initial selection of the best images from the shoot.

After finishing the first round of editing, I will put together a web gallery where I share all of the images with you for your consideration. In addition, I will pick out my favorite 5-10 images from the shoot and fully retouch them to help you visualize how the final images will look once you’ve selected your favorites images from our editorial or commercial photography shoot.

Now you know my full workflow. You can rest assured that I will give my full attention to you and your needs, no matter how big or small the project is.
